Hopefully one day you’ll realize why I couldn’t wait to read Bruce Johnson’s new book-Grove Park Inn: Arts & Crafts Furniture. Even better I hope, after you’ve read it you’ll understand what a conundrum it was figuring out whether to post this as a woodworker’s entry on Gus’ Guild; or Stu’s Blog for Arts and Crafts enthusiast to enjoy. The sad truth is I chose to post it on Stu’s Blog because, of my two blogs, it has gone the longest without a post. Whatever your passion, I’m confident both woodworkers and fans of all things Arts and Crafts will enjoy reading about:
- The Grove Park Inn’s “other” clock
- The secret formula for the Roycrofter’s furniture finish
- How the Roycrofter’s furniture came to be in the GPI
- The many other furniture company’s who helped furnish the GPI
- The origin of the Roycroft Orb-and-cross icon
- The Roycrofter’s carving-by hand or by router?
- Measured drawings of select pieces
I could go on-and-on, but I don’t want to ruin, what I’m sure will be an excellent read for anyone who opens the cover of Bruce Johnson’s Grove Park Inn: Arts & Crafts Furniture.
Finally, no post is complete without a plug, so if you really want to study the Grove Park Inn’s furniture, you should visit during the Arts and Crafts Conference; or just spend a weekend at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa.
Enjoy…
